A is For...(Christmas Day 1)

ADVENT
I love advent. It means it's finally acceptable to be really excited for Christmas, and to decorate and finish presents, and do all things associated with Christmas!
I love it when I come down in the morning to hear my siblings chatting about what was in the calendar that day.
I love the fact that we all chipped in to make our calendar this year, and that when we look at it we can say 'I made that!'

This year we're doing verses too, so my mum has written them on tags and stuck them on the bookshelf for us to read each day. We're going to do it all together when we have our main meal, so it's sort of a family affair.

HISTORY:

I read a bit about the history of advent, and it's actually a preparation for the Second Coming as well as a commemoration of the birth of Christ at Christmas.
The word Advent comes from the Latin word adventus, meaning 'coming', which is a translation of the Greek word parousia which is commonly used to refer to the Second Coming of Jesus.
